Kansas City Area Kiwanis Clubs and Hy-Vee Stores

To Host Mom’s Day Baby Shower Drive May 11, 2013

Twenty-two Kiwanis Clubs are joining with twenty-three Hy-Vee stores across the Kansas City Metropolitan area to host the thirteenth annual Mom’s Day Baby Shower Drive for agencies helping babies in need.

The campaign to collect and distribute baby care items to twenty-one local service agencies will be held the Saturday before Mother’s Day, May 11.  Kiwanians and representatives of the agencies will staff collection tables at the Hy-Vee stores between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Metro Kansas City Kiwanis Council is organizing the drive for agencies serving families and children in Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte Counties in Missouri, and Johnson, Miami and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.  The Council has become aware of the agencies’ critical need for new, daily care items for babies of the families they are serving.  Many times, the agencies have no specific funding for items such as disposable diapers and formula.

The Council urges Kansas City area residents to come to their local Hy-Vee store on May 11 and purchase items for giving while shopping at Hy-Vee or drop off other donations.  Kiwanians and agency representatives at the stores will have lists of needed items, plus information on the benefiting agencies.

The Metro Kansas City Kiwanis Council was formed to address community needs for young children in the greater Kansas City area.  The Council is partnering with agencies serving children to enable Kiwanis Club members to provide needed assistance and networking opportunities.

Agencies benefiting from the Baby Shower Drive are:

Advise and Aide Pregnancy Center; Angels of Grace Family Center;  Black Healthcare Coalition; Cabot Westside Health Center; Child Abuse Prevention Association; The Children’s Place; Clay County Healthy Families; Della Lamb Community Services; Gardner Multi-Service Center; Hope House; Lee’s Summit Social Services; Life Choice Center for Women; Love, Inc. of Clay County;  Mother’s Hands; Newhouse; Raytown Emergency Assistance Program; reStart, Inc.; Salvation Army; Synergy Services, Inc.; and Safehome.
